Engineering and Physics Mechanics

Every level of Bad Piggies begins in the blueprint phase. You are presented with a grid and a limited inventory of mechanical parts. You must snap these parts together to create a viable mode of transportation. Once you click the play button, the physics engine takes over, and your vehicle is subjected to gravity, momentum, and structural stress.

The Building Blocks of Success

Mastering the game requires an understanding of how each component interacts with the game's strict physics rules:

• Frames (Wood vs. Iron): Wooden boxes are lightweight and snap easily, saving your vehicle from being too heavy to climb hills. Iron frames are heavy but highly durable, protecting the pig from explosive crashes.
• Propulsion (Fans, Bellows, and Engines): Bellows provide a weak, manual burst of air when clicked. Electric fans provide continuous, low-power thrust. V8 Engines can be hooked up to fans or wheels to provide massive torque and speed, but they drastically increase the weight of your vehicle.
• Aeronautics (Balloons and Propellers): In later levels, you must build flying machines. Balloons lift your craft, but you must pop them strategically to descend. Rotors require engine power to generate lift, functioning like primitive helicopters.
• Explosives (TNT and Soda Bottles): Sometimes, the only way across a massive gorge is to launch yourself horizontally. Shaking soda bottles provides a burst of jet-like propulsion, while TNT can be used to forcefully eject the pig from a heavy chassis toward the finish line.

The Art of the 3-Star Rating

In most puzzle games, a 3-star rating is based on your final point score. Bad Piggies completely reimagines this system. To earn 3 stars in a level, you must complete three distinct secondary objectives.

The first star is almost always awarded simply for getting the pig across the finish line intact. However, the other two stars require fulfilling specific conditions, such as: finishing the level before the clock runs out, completing the level without utilizing a specific part (like the engine), avoiding all damage, or collecting a hidden Star Box tucked away in a hard-to-reach corner of the map. This objective system gives the game massive replay value, as you often have to build two entirely different vehicles to complete all the objectives for a single level.

Managing Center of Gravity

The most common mistake new players make is ignoring their vehicle's center of gravity. If you place a heavy V8 engine at the top of a tall, narrow wooden structure, your vehicle will violently tip over the moment it hits an incline. A successful rover is usually built wide and low, with the heaviest components acting as ballast at the bottom.
