About Agar.io Unblocked

Agar.io is the legendary 2015 multiplayer phenomenon that literally birthed the entire ".io game" genre. Developed by Matheus Valadares, the premise is brilliantly simple but ruthlessly competitive: you are a single cell in a petri dish. Eat or be eaten. By consuming stationary food pellets and absorbing smaller players, you grow in size, rapidly climbing the server leaderboard.

Basic Mechanics

  • Movement: Your cell follows your mouse cursor automatically. Smaller cells move incredibly fast, while massive cells move sluggishly.
  • The 10% Rule: To eat another player's cell, you must be at least 10% larger than they are. If you are exactly the same size, you will harmlessly bump into each other.
  • Splitting (Spacebar): Press the Spacebar to instantly split your cell in half. The newly created half violently shoots forward in the direction of your cursor. This is the primary offensive maneuver in Agar.io, used to quickly close the gap and swallow fleeing cells that are smaller than your *split half*. It takes time for your two halves to merge back together.
  • Ejecting Mass (W): Press W to eject a tiny orb of your own mass. This makes you slightly smaller. You can use this to feed teammates, bait greedy opponents, or feed a virus.

Agar.io Strategy & Advanced Tactics

Surviving in a server filled with giant cells requires more than just gathering pellets. Once you breach the top 10 on the leaderboard, you become a massive target for everyone else.

1. Hiding in Viruses

The arena is populated by stationary green, spiky circles called Viruses. If you are smaller than the virus, you can sit "inside" or underneath it safely. Because massive cells are instantly shattered into a dozen tiny pieces if they touch a virus, they will actively avoid these zones. They are your primary refuge during the early game.

2. Virus Shooting

If you press "W" to eject mass directly *into* a virus 7 times, the virus will inflate and shoot out a duplicate virus in the direction you were aiming. Pro players use this to snipe massive opponents from afar, instantly popping them from a distance before sweeping in to eat all their shattered fragments.

3. Corner Trapping

The map has boundaries. A common tactic for large cells is to herd smaller cells toward a corner. Once trapped in a 90-degree angle, the fleeing cell has no escape vector, allowing the massive cell to easily corner them and absorb them without even needing to risk a split maneuver.

Game FAQ

How to play agar.io?

Move your mouse to control your cell's movement. Eat randomly generated pellets to slowly gain mass. Once you are 10% larger than an opponent, you can absorb their cell by touching them. Press the Spacebar to split your cell in half and launch it forward, which is used to catch smaller fleeing opponents.

Who developed agar.io?

Agar.io was famously created by Matheus Valadares, a 19-year-old Brazilian developer, in 2015. It was originally hosted on 4chan and rapidly grew into an internet phenomenon, single-handedly creating the ".io" game genre.

What are the green spiky circles in agar.io?

The green spiky circles are Viruses. If you are smaller than the virus, you can hide inside it without being harmed (and larger cells can't reach you). However, if you are larger than the virus and touch it, your cell will violently "pop" and shatter into dozens of tiny pieces, leaving you extremely vulnerable.

What are the different game modes in agar.io?

Agar.io features FFA (Free-For-All), Teams (where colors work together), Experimental (testing new features), and Battle Royale (where the arena shrinks over time).
